Gandhinagar, Wednesday: Prime Minister of Australia Mr. Anthony Albanese MP is on a two-day visit to Gujarat. The first international branch campus of Australia’s Deakin University
is going to be established at Gift City, Gujarat.
A special program was organized today at Ahmedabad to celebrate the strong educational relations between India and Australia in the presence of Prime Minister of Australia, Governor
of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devvrat, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel.
On this occasion Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel while welcoming the Deakin University to Gujarat said that Gujarat has become the role model of the country today under the
guidance of the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narendra Modi and under his guidance the Gujarat government has also implemented the mission of making Gujarat an education hub at the national and international level…
Along with this, the initiative to make India’s education policy of international standard under the education policy has also been done under his guidance. He added.
The Chief Minister further said that Joint/Dual/Degree Draft Regulation has been included in the National Education Policy for setting up foreign universities in India, in view
of which Australia’s Deakin University is opening its international campus at Gift City near Gandhinagar, it is a matter of pride for Gujarat. Deakin University’s approach of ‘in India, with India and for India’ is more than welcomed. He added.
The Chief Minister further said that there is a strategic partnership between India and Deakin University since the last three decades.
The Chief Minister further said that The partnership between Deakin University and Indian educational institutions, industry and government will not only be fruitful, but it is
believed that the Deakin University-International Branch Campus will be instrumental in realizing the goal set by Gift City to provide graduate manpower to the industry.
Referring to Gift City as India’s first financial and technology gateway to the world, the Chief Minister said that Gift City has world-class infrastructure for international transactions
in banking, insurance and financial markets. Gujarat is ready to provide all support to international universities who want to open their branch campus in the gift city.He added.
The Chief Minister said, Gujarat has also signed a sister city agreement with Australia’s New South Wales in 2018. The Free-Trade Agreement (FTA) has become an effective medium
for taking bilateral relations between India and Australia to new heights. He added.
Referring to the fact that Gujarat has become the growth engine of the country under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said,
Gujarat will be able to avail special benefits from bilateral relations and free trade agreement. Both Australia and India have focused on potential cooperation in more than ten strategic sectors.
While Gujarat is India’s leading state in multiple sectors like gems and jewellery, agriculture, tourism, health and pharma, and energy, under the Free Trade Agreement Chief Minister
also expressed confidence that by the year 2027 Gujarat will also play its part to contribute significantly to achieve the potential target set by India and Australia of fifty billion US dollars of trade and commerce.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary of the State Shri Raj Kumar, MD and Group CEO of Gift City Shri Tapan Ray, Principal Secretary of Education Department Shri S. J. Haider , High
officials of the state including Universities Australia CEO Ms. Catriona Jackson, Chancellor of Deakin University Mr. John Stanhope, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University Mr. Prof. Lain Martin, officials of Gift City and IFSCA and officials of Education Department
were present.
